Petra, originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu or Raqēmō, is a historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan. The area around Petra has been inhabited as early as 7000 BC. This wondeful and historic landmark is adjacent to the Jabal Al-Madbah mountains, located in a basin that forms the eastern flank of the Arabah valley which stretches from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra's mordern day location, Jordan, is located in the Middle East, surrounded by Isreal to the east, Iraq to the west, Syra to the north, and Saudi Arabia to the south.
